Heritage Corner
John Wesley is known as the “Father of Methodism”. He was an English theologian who started a revival movement known as Methodism. He migrated his ministry to Ireland and eventually to the American settlements. Along with his brother, Charles Wesley, they wrote many of our hymns that we sing today.
When we gather for worship, take out the hymnal and find some of these treasured songs. Look for “O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing”, Hark the Herald Angels Sing”, “Rejoice the Lord is King”…and many more.
On Heritage Sunday, we remember our past from long ago as well as our history here at Oakland. The exclusive group in our congregation are those that have been members for 50 or more years. Some since birth and some following generations of family members that paved the way for us today.
